Open House 19th and 20th of October

We will be holding an open house on two days to allow anyone interested in curling to try out the sport and hopefully sign up for curling this year. The open house is from 10 am until 2 pm Saturday and Sunday, the 19th and 20th of October and there will be coffee, goodies and coaches to help you learn how the sport is played. Everyone is welcome. If you decide to join we will put you on a league to play when and at whatever level suits you. League play starts in the week of October 21 so don't miss this opportunity to join in on the fall season before it's too late.

Annual garage sale - Second edition

The Club has decided to extend its annual garage sale for an extra day.  It will be held Saturday, June 29th between 8h00 and 3h00.  We still have some interesting things including nice pieces of furniture.
So talk to your parents and friends and make sure to drop by for a visit at the Sutton Curling Club - 26 Pleasant in Sutton.

We closed the Season with a Bang!

The evening of April 13th was the end of the 2024 Doubles Tournament and of our 75th Anniversary year! The Closing Supper was a great way to end a great season. Thanks to everyone that participated and Special Thanks to Fred Boucher and Veronick Vallée who organized the event, hosted the evening beautifully and even provided the great deserts and prizes.

Congratulation to our Doubles Tournament Winners as well! On the A side, Victor Duncan and Juli Lefebvre won a narrow victory over John Salisbury and Carolyn Murphy. On the B side, Rosalie Boucher and Sam Bouthillier won, edging out Corey Smith and Dominique Chesnais.

I would also like to thank everyone who helped to make this such a great Year:

The board of directors - Bill Taylor (Past President),  Heather Scott (Rentals), Dora Shepard (Events), Fred Boucher (Events and Bar), Glen Mudie (Head Ice technician), Roland Mamers (Ice and volunteer), Morley Alan (Ice and volunteer), Nicky Gosselin (Junior program) Patrick Belanger (Treasurer) and new board member Grace Pollock. Thanks also to Louise Hawley who stepped down this year as secretary, but who has served for many years and continues to run the garage sale.

Thank you to Glen Mudie and the team that maintained the ice throughout the year. This is always a challenging and time-consuming task. We are lucky to have so many dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers.

Thank you also to all the other volunteers and members who have contributed time and goods or labour to keep the lights on (literally - thanks Don) and food on the table and tournaments running (thanks - Ron and Sylvie, Dora and Fred, Tim and Sue, and Yanik) and keeping the place clean and tidy (thanks - Heather Tuer). There are many others who have given time, and I cannot count all of their contributions, but thank you all. Each member pitching in has made our year a success.

Nicky's junior program has been a big success this year and we will be expanding it to include older kids and grow that side of our membership. I know the school appreciates it and the kids and their parents have given it a resounding thumbs up! Thank you, Nicky, and to all of her team of volunteers.

Finally, thanks to Heather Scott who has run the rentals for years and given countless hours of her time, which has contributed to raising the public awareness of our club and funds to keep us running. She will be stepping down from that role this year and we wish to honour her as our "Volunteer of the Year". Thank you, Heather.

I look forward to next year. Enjoy the summer and spread the word to your friends about our great organization.

Annual garage sale

Annual garage sale

The curling season is coming to an end so it is time for us to think about our annual garage sale which this year will be held on Saturday May 18th. The sale is a very good source of revenue for the Club, it generates a good 2,000$ every year.
Its success depends strongly on the participation of all of you members.  So here is how you can participate:

  1. By bringing things to sell, for example: tools, plants, books, kitchen ware, electronics, sport gears, jewelry, toys, small pieces of furniture (no fridges or stoves), etc.
  2. We also have a bake table.  So bakers your contributions are most welcome.  The person responsible for the table will be contacting you.
  3. By offering your services the day of the sale, Saturday the 18th of May from 8am to 5:00pm.  We need a good 15 people for this.  On Friday pm we also need people to put the things on the tables and price the items, for this we need roughly 10 people.  Those that can only be there part of the time are of course also welcome.
  4. We are always looking for men to move heavy stuff and to manage the sport and tool section outside.

Awaiting your emails to inform me of your availability!  Let’s make it a fun day!

Report from the Magog Women's Tournament:

Sylvie Martel, Steffani Wilson, Cindy Allnutt and Nicki Gosselin represented Sutton at the Magog Women's Tournament February 28 to March 2. They won their first game and were eliminated in the second, but still have a great event and were well received. Many asked if we would have a one day bonspiel for women next year. Something to start planning!

Doubles Tournament

Update on our Doubles Tournament. It is happening December 9th and 10th with play starting on Saturday at 8:30 am and the last game at 4pm. There will be a lunch of soup and sandwiches. On Sunday we start at 9:00 am with finals at 3:00 pm with pizza for lunch. The cost per player is $25 for both days.  There will be coffee and muffins each morning for the early birds. This is a popular tournament since we all seem to enjoy doubles curling and we already have 32 curlers signed up, but you can still sign up as a spare in case someone cannot play. And please come out to watch and cheer on the others. Please note there will be no dinner Saturday evening. This is a Funspiel for a pre-holiday get-together. Enjoy. Any questions, please call or email Dora (450) 538-0663 or Fred Boucher (450) 538-6052.

Sutton Curling Club celebrated its 75th anniversary with a Members Tournament in which mixed teams from all leagues played on Saturday November 18th. It was a fun day and a great celebration. We would like to especially thank Alanna Routledge, Executive Director of Curling Québec who came out and presented us with a plaque commemorating our 75th Anniversary.  Special thanks also go to all those volunteers who helped make this event a success and to the many past Presidents (some of whom are pictured in the attached photo with Alanna) for leading the club throughout its history.
